BME celebrates Financial Literacy Day

BME promotes financial education every day of the year and, of course, also on Financial Literacy Day, which this year is celebrated on October 7. For yet another year, BME has joined this day, which seeks to raise awareness of the importance of promoting financial literacy among the population, to which it has been firmly committed since its origins.

To commemorate this day, on October 7, the Stock Exchange session will be opened with a commemorative Ring the Bell at the Madrid Stock Exchange Palace, with the participation of the Madrid City Council and IOSCO. This event is part of the “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative promoted by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and IOSCO as part of World Investors Week.

The day will continue with a meeting between Enrique Castellanos, director of Instituto BME, and Esther del Brío, author of the book “El bosque de la economía”, which is based on an audiobook launched a few months ago by BME, which includes stories aimed at children aged 6 to 10 years old that teach basic concepts related to economics.

This will be followed by three webinars focused on digitalization and its impact on financial education: “Educational experiences in finance using digital media”, “Digital tools for stock market investment” and “Identifying risks in digital investment management” (you can register for these meetings through this link).

Agenda

BME participates in various initiatives that promote financial literacy throughout the year. For example, together with the Madrid City Council, it participates in the “Madrid, un libro abierto” (Madrid, an open book) program, open to high school, basic vocational training and intermediate vocational training students. BME is developing the “The Stock Market World” module, which teaches young people the basics of financial markets, focusing on the equity market. From January to June 2024, 22 sessions were held for 19 schools with a total of 379 students.

It also regularly collaborates with initiatives aimed at retail investors such as El Concurso de Bolsa, which seeks to familiarize participants with the workings of the financial markets, organized each year by El Inversor Inquieto, Andbank, MyInvestor and the María Jesús Soto Foundation.

Financial literacy is one of the material pillars of the sustainability strategy of BME and the SIX Group to which it belongs.
