One of the ways in which BME is committed to sustainable finance is through the generation of ESG indices such as the FTSE4Good IBEX®, the IBEX Gender Equality® and the IBEX ESG®, family, that recognizes the performance of companies in environmental, social and governance aspects.
The IBEX Gender Equality® was launched in November 2021 to promote gender equality among listed companies, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #5. This indicator is updated annually based on information published by the CNMV. To be included in the index, companies must have between 25% and 75% female presence on their Board of Directors and between 15% and 85% in senior management.
In 2008, together with FTSE, it launched the FTSE4Good IBEX® index, which includes the leading Spanish listed companies in sustainability. This index allows investors who follow socially responsible criteria to know which companies are at the forefront of good practices, which facilitates the composition of their portfolios. The criteria analysed for the preparation of the index are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To be included in the index, securities must have a rating of more than 3.1 out of 5 in the FTSE rating.
