Find Out About the Initiatives Undertaken by BME to Improve the Well-Being and Future Development of Society

BME and Our Contribution to Society

We review the initiatives promoted by BME to contribute to people’s well-being and the development of society. These include promoting financial education and gender equality, contributing to the conservation of the environment and respect for human rights, and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Promoting Financial Literacy

Financial Education and Training

Since the very beginning, BME has been firmly committed to sharing and disseminating knowledge in financial matters. In addition, financial education is one of the pillars of the sustainability strategy of the SIX Group, to which BME belongs. Through our training subsidiary, BME Institute, also promotes financial literacy, subscribing to the recommendations and Good Practices on Financial Education and Awareness of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The financial disclosure activity facilitates the development of the financial skills of the general public, improves their level of autonomy, and promotes a better understanding of financial products, concepts, and risks.

BME Institute is the training centre of BME and its educational offerings are aimed at all types of audiences and levels of initiation to the economy. Some of its training programmes are aimed at professionals in the financial sector, but others are directed at individual investors, students, and, in general, anyone interested in getting introduced to or deepening their knowledge of the world of finance.

To complement our educational offerings, BME launched Braindex, an open and 100% online educational environment that offers courses related to markets and financial products, dissemination, technology, and regulation applied to the sector.

BME in the Institutions

As part of its contribution to the dissemination of financial knowledge, BME is a member of a number of academic and, above all, professional institutions such as professional associations and colleges, economic circles and other consortia such as SPAINCAP, OFISO and Spainsif.

We are also an active member of federations and other stock exchange organizations in which it defends common interests with a clear focus on Europe and Latin America, which are two of our main international areas of influence.

We also cooperate on training projects, either directly or through the BME Institute and the four stock exchanges, and give specific courses and seminars for universities, training institutions, or groups outside the sector.

BME is also a member of the Financial Education Plan promoted by the CNMV and the Bank of Spain and we support Financial Education Day every year with different initiatives.

Commitment to the Community

Awards and Scholarships

As part of our commitment to society, BME invests every year in scholarships and awards. The objective is to support research into finance and markets and to facilitate access to the highest quality financial education.

Environment

BME: Zero Emissions by 2050

As part of the SIX Group, we at BME adhere to the 'Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)' and have established a series of objectives to progressively reduce the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere in our various activities.

  • Energy efficiency:
We at BME promote different measures with the aim of reducing our electricity consumption and thereby reducing the emissions derived from our activity, mainly from our lighting systems, air conditioning systems, and technological assets.

  • Remote work:
We at BME have implemented remote work as a formula that helps reconcile personal and professional life, and we provide employees with financial assistance to facilitate remote connection.
  • Transport and commuting:
BME encourages sustainable commuting through public transport instead of private transport. To this end, employees are provided with a transport ticket for use in urban and interurban transport. Additionally, the use of trains is prioritised over planes for short business trips.
Diversity

At BME, diversity is a strategic value. We believe that a diverse and committed team is key to driving innovation and generating business value. We promote an inclusive culture where everyone, regardless of gender, origin or experience, can contribute their talent and develop in an equitable and healthy professional environment. Through various initiatives and the promotion of diversity at all levels, we work to build a more representative organization that reflects the richness of our society and contributes to the success of our company.

Ring the Bell for Gender Equality

We at BME advocate gender equality in the conduct of our everyday work and support different projects to raise awareness concerning the importance of the issue. One such measure is the Ring the Bell for Gender Equality, in which more than 80 markets around the world participate. Organized by BME and the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, the initiative is part of the international Ring the Bell for Gender Equality movement, which is supported by Sustainable Stock Exchanges and the United Nations Global Compact.

The event, which is becoming larger each year, seeks to send out the message that gender equality is fundamental to boosting the global economy and to highlight the importance of the private sector in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.

Ring the Bell for Gender Equality is usually celebrated on March 8 of each year.
